MVLD is a boutique landscape design studio specializing in high-end residential and hospitality projects throughout Southern California. Our studio is located just off Highway 101 in the heart of Leucadia, only a few blocks from the beach. We're a small studio, so you'll have the chance to work directly on real projects, learn quickly, and make a meaningful impact from day one.

OPEN POSITIONS:

LANDSCAPE DESIGNER
Leucadia, North County San Diego (Hybrid)

We are seeking a talented, self-motivated Landscape Designer with a strong design sensibility and excellent communication skills. This is a hybrid position, offering the flexibility to work both remotely and from our Leucadia studio.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to be deeply involved in every phase of the design process—from initial client meetings and concept development through construction documentation, permitting, and project implementation. The successful candidate will be designing projects, working directly with clients, consultants, and contractors, and should be confident presenting and defending design ideas throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Landscape design projects from concept through construction.

  • Meet directly with clients and contractors.

  • Prepare design presentations, construction documents, and planting plans.

  • Coordinate with consultants and project teams.

  • Conduct site visits and assist during construction.

  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining a high level of design quality and attention to detail.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture.

  • 4+ years of professional landscape architecture or landscape design experience.

  • Proficiency in:

    • AutoCAD

    • SketchUp

    • Lumion

    • Adobe Creative Suite

  • Strong graphic, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing projects in Southern California.

  • Strong horticultural knowledge.

  • Proficiency with Land F/X.

  • Experience producing construction details and documentation.

  • Licensure or progress toward licensure is a plus. Licensure testing will be compensated.

Hours

Monday through Friday 8:30-5:30. Typically 40 hour work week with additional help needed up to 50 hours during crunch times with paid overtime. Wednesdays is work from home.

Pay

$35.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Authorization to work in the United States will be verified on the first day of employment.

DESIGN ASSISTANT Leucadia, North County San Diego (Fully Remote)

We're looking for a design assistant to join our small, creative landscape design studio. This is a hands-on role that's perfect for someone who loves design, plants, and getting out from behind a desk. You'll help with everything from visiting nurseries and job sites to creating graphics and supporting the design team on a variety of projects.

If you're interested in landscape design and want real experience working on high-end residential projects, this is a great opportunity to learn and grow into a larger design role.

Responsibilities

  • Visit nurseries, stone yards, and material suppliers throughout San Diego County.

  • Pick up project materials, plans, and samples from the studio.

  • Assist with site visits, field measurements, and construction observations.

  • Create plant cards, Photoshop renderings, presentation graphics, and marketing materials.

  • Research and source plants, materials, and outdoor furnishings.

  • Help coordinate with clients, contractors, and consultants.

  • Jump in wherever needed to help keep projects moving.

What We're Looking For

  • A good eye for design and attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with Southern California plants (or a genuine interest in learning).

  • Comfortable working independently and managing your own time.

  • Friendly, organized, and reliable.

  • Reliable vehicle (truck or SUV preferred) for transporting materials.

Bonus Skills

These aren't required—we're happy to teach the right person.

  • AutoCAD

  • SketchUp

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

  • Experience with residential landscape projects

Hours

Flexible, part-time hours with the expectation that you're available to run errands and visit job sites during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, approximately 9:00 AM–5:00 PM). Hours needed will vary week to week from 10-40 hours.

Pay

$20–$25/hour, depending on experience.
